How the math works
Everything gets turned into inches first. Then the math runs on plain inches, and the answer gets rounded to the fraction you picked and turned back into feet and inches.
Inches = feet x 12 + inches + fraction
Add or subtract: A + B, or A - B (a negative answer means B is longer)
Multiply or divide: A x n, or A / n (n is a whole number)
Round: nearest 1/16 = round(inches x 16) / 16
Equal spaces: each space = total / spaces
Mark k from the start = total x k / spaces, rounded on its ownEach mark is worked out from the start of the run, not by adding up rounded spaces. That way small rounding errors don't stack up, and the last mark lands right on the end.
Example: 5' 7 3/8" is 5 x 12 + 7 + 0.375 = 67.375 inches. Add 2' 9 5/8" (33.625 inches) and you get 101 inches, which is 8' 5".
