Waiting-On Log
Your crew rolls out of the yard and something is missing. The material isn't on the truck, the prints are an old rev, or nobody can get you into the building. You asked the office days ago. This one-page log keeps track of every ask, when you made it, and what it cost when it didn't show.
How to use: tap any box to type. The log saves in this browser so you can add to it all week. Print it for the truck, or keep it on your phone. Nothing you type leaves your device.
Waiting-On Log
| Item | Date asked | Who I asked | Date needed | Status | Why it didn't show | Impact (hours lost) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Example 40 sticks of 3/4" EMT | Mon 10/12 | Office (email + call) | Thu 10/15 | Late | Order never placed | 3 people x 2 hrs = 6 |
| Total hours lost this week | 0 | |||||
Status: Asked, Confirmed, Late, Here, or Gone around. Write the date and who you asked every time, even for a quick call. If it costs your crew hours, turn the row into a delay notice the same day.
How to use the log
Start with the 3 PM yard check
Around 3 PM, before the office goes home, walk through tomorrow's work and check four things:
- Tools: is every tool, lift, and test meter you need on the truck or reserved?
- Info: do you have the current prints, the submittals, and answers to your open questions?
- Material: is it on the truck, on site, or confirmed for delivery before you need it?
- Space: can you get in? Keys, badges, escorts, and the area clear of other trades.
Anything that fails the check goes on the log right away, with today's date and who you asked. Ask while there's still time for someone to fix it.
Keep it going all week
- One row per ask. If you ask again, add the new date in the same row so the log shows how many times you asked.
- Date needed is the day the crew can't keep working without it. Be honest; it's what makes the log hold up later.
- Why it didn't show is the reason you were told, or "no answer."
- Impact is people times hours, like 3 people x 2 hrs = 6. The log adds up the last number in each box for the week total.
When it costs hours
Lost hours are what your PM needs to know about. Send a short delay notice the same day, and attach or copy the log rows. Then send the whole log at the end of the week, even when it's a good week. A clean log shows the office the system is working.
