Jobsite Tools: AI and Field Apps Worth Using
You don't need a dozen apps. Here are the ones that actually save time on site. Before you use anything for work, check what your company allows.
AI helpers
- ChatGPT: turns your rough notes into reports, emails, RFIs, and toolbox talks. Start with our prompts.
- Microsoft Copilot: same idea as ChatGPT. Often the one your company already approves if you use Outlook and Teams.
- Google Gemini: another AI helper, handy if your company runs on Google.
Notes and meetings
- Your phone's voice recorder: talk instead of type. iPhone Voice Memos and Google Recorder on Pixel can turn what you say into text you paste into AI.
- Fireflies.ai: records and writes up your coordination calls, with action items, so you're not taking notes.
- Otter.ai: live transcripts of meetings and voice notes.
Field apps
- CompanyCam: jobsite photos sorted by project and location, with notes. Great for proof of work.
- Procore: big project management platform for daily logs, RFIs, drawings, and punch lists. You'll see it on a lot of commercial jobs.
- Fieldwire: drawings, task lists, and punch lists on your phone or tablet.
- Raken: daily reports, time cards, and photos from the field.
- SafetyCulture: digital safety checklists and inspections.
- Autodesk Build: drawings, RFIs, and issues in one place, common on bigger jobs.
Most crews only need three things: a voice recorder, one AI helper, and whatever field app your company already pays for. Get good at those before adding more.
